Análisis de la elasticidad del precio y ventaja comparativa revelada del sector de cítricos en México

Abstract

La literatura en materia de ciencias socioeconómicas señala un inherente vínculo entre el nivel de competitividad y el desarrollo, motivo por cual se hace necesario el estudio de la competitividad no sólo en torno al comportamiento colectivo de sus bienes y servicios, sino también en sectores estratégicos. En este sentido, el objetivo de la presente investigación es identificar la elasticidad precio de la oferta y la demanda, la ventaja de competitividad revelada (VCR), así como aplicar la Teoría de Integración Económica de Balassa para determinar el nivel de competitividad del sector agropecuario del limón, la lima y la lima persa en México. Los resultados permiten estimar un impacto favorable en la comercialización del cítrico al presentarse inelástico con respecto a su precio; adicionalmente, la VCR y el índice de Balassa, indican una ventaja competitiva sumamente favorable derivada del intercambio comercial del producto con el mundo y, principalmente, con los Estados Unidos de América.

ABSTRACT. The literature on socio-economic sciences points to an inherent link between the level of competitiveness and development, which is why it is necessary to study competitiveness not only around the collective behavior of their goods and services, but also in strategic sectors. In this sense, the objective of this research is to identify the price elasticity of supply and demand, the advantage of revealed competitiveness (VCR), as well as apply the Balassa Economic Integration Theory to determine the level of competitiveness of the agricultural sector. of lemon, lime and Persian lime in Mexico. The results allow estimating a favorable impact in the commercialization of the citrus fruit when presenting itself inelastic with respect to its price; In addition, the VCR and the Balassa index indicate an extremely favorable competitive advantage derived from the commercial exchange of the product with the world and, mainly, with the United States of America.
